BMW M3 Competition

The M3 has always been BMW's answer to the question of whether a four-door can be a proper driver's car. This Competition version takes the formula to its sharpest point yet. The 3.0 litre M TwinPower Turbo inline-six makes 510 horsepower and 650 Nm, fed to the rear wheels through an 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox. Adaptive M suspension and an active rear differential keep the car composed long after most fast saloons start to feel nervous, and that composure is what separates it from quicker but cruder rivals.

What it is actually like depends on the mode you choose. In Comfort it sits flat and quiet, happy to cover a motorway commute without fuss. Switch it over and the steering weights up, the throttle sharpens and the rear axle comes into play.
