McLaren 570S Spider

The 570S Spider comes from McLaren's Sports Series, the range built to make a McLaren something you could use rather than only admire. It takes the carbon fibre engineering of the coupe and opens it to the sky. A 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V8 sends 562 horsepower to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, good for 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and a roof-up 328 km/h. Because the MonoCell tub needed no reinforcement for the convertible, nothing was lost in the conversion.

Its strength is the way it changes character. Left in Comfort, the dampers stay supple and the cabin is calm enough for a long drive. Switch to Sport or Track and the V8 sharpens, the exhaust opens, and the car wakes up. With the roof down the engine fills the open cabin with a sound the coupe keeps to itself, and the dihedral doors lifting at a valet draw a look every time.

This is a car for Dubai's better hours. Take an early evening run along JBR with the top folded away, then a clear stretch out toward Al Qudra where the dampers settle and the V8 just pulls. There is 202 litres of luggage split between the front compartment and the tonneau, so a long weekend across the city and out to the desert is no trouble.
