McLaren 765LT

The 765LT is a Longtail, the badge McLaren reserves for the most extreme version of a Super Series car. The 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 sends 755 horsepower to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox for 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h. Production was capped at 765 cars worldwide, so this is a machine you rarely encounter in daily traffic and one that holds real collector standing.

Everything about it is more focused than the 720S it is based on. It is lighter and more aggressive, built around a carbon fibre monocoque with a titanium exhaust and brakes derived from the McLaren Senna. The cabin is stripped back in Alcantara to save weight. This was engineered for the track first and then made usable on the road, which is why it rewards a driver who already knows what a supercar feels like.

It is happiest with room to stretch. The early morning runs out toward Hatta or along the Al Qudra loop give the Longtail aero and the lightweight chassis the space they want, away from the lights and the crowds. Inside the city it gathers a crowd at every junction on Sheikh Zayed Road, helped by its Nardo Orange paint, so plan your stops with that in mind. The dry desert air and warm tarmac suit a car this serious.
